A nightmare??

I just discovered two amazing musicians who are just adorably amusing and entertaining!

Igudesman and Joo!

Aleksey Igudesman and Richard Hyung-Ki Joo, are the masterminds behind "A Little Nightmare Music". They bring classical music to a different level with comical stunts you will never see in most fancy orchestra or chamber music performances. Don't think that they play the piano and violin anyhow when they kid around, nope! Both of them are professional and highly educated musicians! I found out that they are touring soon and unfortunately, THEY ARE NOT TOURING IN MALAYSIA!!

Grrrrrrrrrrr.....

Here are some of their performances:

"Rachmaninov had BIG HANDS"

"A Piano Lesson"

Cute yea?

What a great idea to play chords too spread out and I really love the piano lesson because it reminds me of my piano teacher getting furious when I don't play it right. Hehe.. (^.^)

Trials

Exams began yesterday with a brain draining paper: Thinking Skills Paper 2!

Actually it ain't so bad. Economics Paper 2 in the afternoon was worse! I just HAD to choose a question which made me get stuck halfway through my essay and darn it, I did not know what else to write.. =( It's so not like an English essay (and also History) where you can write all sorts of words to "beautify" your essay and gain extra marks, you're so dead if the facts you write are all screwed up!

I'm just glad that one and a half subjects are over already!

I can't wait to be back home next week!!!

7/10

I give a 7 out of 10 for Colbie Caillat's performance last Friday night. To me, her songs are just catchy and not so super fantastic, plus her performance was kind of plain. Probably it's because it's a small promo tour, sponsored by Celcom, hitz.fm, Laundry Bar etc and she's quite new to the music industry.

I went to get the tickets at around 5.15pm but the hitz.fm people were not there yet. Hmmpf! The guy who called me up said that I must collect the tickets between 5-7pm. So we went back to the apartment and came back at 6pm to collect it.

~The tickets Nickki won~

Actually, I had no plans to go watch her performance, because the hitz.fm people never called me so I thought that they would not give them to Nickki as they knew she was in Kuching. In the end, they called me up just the day before (so super LAST MINUTE!) to tell me that I would be able to claim the tickets on Nickki's behalf. I already had plans on that night (Aunty Essy and Uncle Richard invited me over for dinner the week before) and I asked the guy if it was possible to pass the tickets to any of my friends instead. They must be thinking that we were kind of troublesome or something because Nickki put the tickets under my name and I wanted to put them under someone else's name.

After many messages and calls, nobody could make it as it was SO LAST MINUTE. So I asked Aunty Essy if she and Uncle Richard and Aunty Sally would want to come. She said that Uncle Richard would be more interested as he likes to watch musicians perform live, especially ones that play guitar, so I got one person to come. The next day in school, I asked Adeline again and she decided to come with Danial. That settled it! Me, Uncle Richard, Adeline and Danial were going to watch Colbie live.

~Ain't that Colbie Caillat?~

~Soundchecking when I collected the tickets~

Uncle Richard and I left the apartment after dinner at around 7.50pm (the show starts at 8pm but I knew that she would not come out straight away). We also did not bother to come too early, because it was starting to rain a little (all the more they might delay her show!). When we got there, there were a lot of people waiting around under the shades (the stage was in an open area by the way). One thing that bummed big time was that they did not check if the people who got through the barriers had tickets and they even let those without tickets through! How unfair! Having the tickets does not seem so special at all now!!

Adam C and Natalie (I think it's their names) hosted the show and had a few games going on in the rain. They were giving off her poster and a few CDs which we later discovered that to get Colbie's autograph, you had to have either one of those, or else you cannot get any autograph. If you did not win them, you could purchase one at the hitz.fm stall nearby. How super sucky and unfair is that??

Colbie only appeared on stage at about 9.15pm, after the rain died down.

~Adeline, Danial, Uncle Richard and *gasps* chubby!!~

~Check out the guitarist next to her! He looks way better in person!~

"Hmmm.. What was the next line again?"

=D

I don't know if Colbie felt a bit disappointed or uncomfortable because the crowd was pretty pretty quiet. Maybe they are not really big fans of her (like me). Hehe.. And I did not see anybody sway along to her music or shouting loads of stuff (some guy did shout "I LOVE YOU, COLBIE" behind me), well maybe there WERE some and I did not see them. Her performance ended about 45 minutes later, and the autograph session lasted about 30 minutes after that. We were not allowed to line up so what we did was to wait at the barriers closest to the stage so we could get a good view.

"I don't remember agreeing to do this..."

#YES! She looked here after I called out her name!#

Eventhough I was not a fan, I just thought it was nice to say (well, shout actually) some things to her before she left in a van without stopping to take pictures with us outside the barrier, like "THANK YOU FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE COLBIE" and "GOODNIGHT" and "HAVE A SAFE TRIP BACK!". She was very far away that's why I had to shout. Hehe..

I really tried my best to get an autograph for Nickki and Ching but, mission failed. =( At least I tried! And Nickki got to listen to the WHOLE performance live through the handphone! I called home and left the phone on the whole time since my number to mummy's number does not get charged! =) I also video-ed "Realize" and "Bubbly" but not the whole thing because Uncle Richard's camera ran out of space, kind of suck at holding the camera properly so the video is a little bit blurry and shaky. Eheh..

"Realize"

"Bubbly"

Colbie Caillat Tonight at The Curve

I don't remember watching any live performances by any well known international singers before. Tonight will be my first thanks to my little sister who won FOUR tickets to Colbie Caillat's performance at the Curve tonight from hitz.fm!

Honestly, I'm not really a huge fan of hers (only heard Bubbly, Tie Down and Realize), I just think that her music's pretty pleasant and soothing. Sorry Colbie Caillat fans! But I'll be going to represent Nickki and hopefully I am able to get her to autograph my tickets or something!

I'll be going with Uncle Richard and I managed to find two more people who would be able to come: Danial and Adeline! YAY! I just hope that after school when Uncle Richard and Aunty Essy picks me up, the jam won't be that horrible and I can get the tickets before seven! Too bad I don't have a camera to take pictures of her. =(

Do something.

Last Friday, Mark, Cheong, Sher Lynn and I went to Monash University to attend the ONE LIFE REVOLUTION exhibit. I don't know if many people know about it but it's one of World Vision's projects.

What is it exactly?

It's an interactive experiential exhibit which allows you to "walk in the shoes" of children who have endured hardships because of HIV/AIDS and child trafficking. It's totally different from the usual AIDS awareness exhibits and all that you would normally see. It's a personal audio-visual journey that lasts for about 20 minutes or so.

I don't know if it'll be the same at all the venues but the one at Monash had three different stories: Jothi's (a girl from India), Srey Mom's (from Cambodia) and John's (not sure about his because I didn't have time to walk in his shoes).

I was really excited as Juen told me that it was a really good experience. She was the one who told me about it as she was one of the volunteers! Too bad, if I knew about it sooner, I would have definitely volunteered! Anyway, the exhibit is set up like a maze and visitors are given an mp3 player (to be returned AFTER you complete the experience!) at the entrance. You are advised to silent your handphones and not be distracted so that you would be able to really put yourself in the child's situation throughout the walk. All the paths are blocked by curtains and you will be guided by the voice in the headphones (a choice of either English, Malay or Chinese).

I did not know what to expect after I put the headphones on but I think it's a really good idea (well maybe some people might feel uncomfortable as they would have to follow instructions throughout the whole thing.). I waited at the beginning of the path with some other people and listened to the voice in my ears. It began by introducing me to this exhibit and explained to me that I was now "Jothi" and I am to walk in her shoes throughout my journey.

"Step through the curtain," she would say, and I obeyed.

In front of me I saw three paths with names written above them:
Curtain #1: Srey Mom
Curtain #2: Jothi
Curtain #3: John

The voice then instructed me to step through "my path": Jothi.

The next thing I saw were pictures of India: the map, people places, food etc. The voice then gave some facts about India, like how it has the 2nd largest HIV-positive population in the world and I (Jothi) did not know about it. "I" do not know what is this "AIDS" problem that people are so worried about and "I" did not know that "I" may be infected with it.

The next path through the curtain led me to "my house" (a small room with clothes, pots and pans etc) and pictures of "my family". It turns out that "my parents" passed away when "I" was young because they had HIV. "I" was left with a younger brother and sister with no one to take care of me. "I" was uneducated and was forced to find means to support "myself and my siblings".

I felt very sad when I looked at the photos and imagined how hard her life was and thought that most of us here have it so easy. Our parents are still taking care of us, providing us with shelter, food, love, and we take it for granted wanting this and that. Jothi was forced to pick up rubbish and sell them to make money and her brother was always sick. It turns out later that he is HIV positive. "My younger sister" too was found to be HIV positive but she had not fallen sick, yet.

After a few more paths and sad photographs, "I" was led to the "clinic" where I had to check if I was HIV positive. (By the way, there were no jams in the maze because they alternate the routes and by the time you enter another path, someone else has left!)

HIV negative.

"I" was HIV negative! But it may not be 100% as the signs may not show now. A person with HIV sometimes are tested negative during the first try and after the next few, it is confirmed positive. This is very sad as some people think that they do not have the disease and they end up infecting other people by having unprotected sex, multiple partners, sharing needles and such.

At the end of the path, you would be able to see pictures of others with HIV and write a prayer or some encouraging notes to HIV/AIDS victims on a wall. (Juen confirmed with me that all the things that people wrote would be compiled and read out to victims at relief camps) They even give you a small bracelet for you to remind you of your journey.

After finishing one, you may choose to queue up and request to listen to the other stories there! They're all different and I managed to go through Srey Mom's life. I did not walk in John's shoes because it was getting late and we were trying to avoid the jam! We did not however, and we were stuck at the small roads leading to the main road for 45 minutes!! The whole stretch was about 2 kilometres long!!! Waaah!

Anyway

"ONE LIFE" is very touching and unique and I advise those who have not been through it to GO WHEN IT IS HELD AT A VENUE NEAR YOU! It's FREE OF CHARGE!

Next venues:
15-16 March @ Mid Valley Megamall, KL
10-12 April @ Kota Bharu Mall, Kelantan
1-4 May @ Sarawak Tourism Complex, Kuching

Lost and Found

In case some of you don't know yet, Rendall's car was found a month after it went missing.

The police found it abandoned (they failed to mention the place) and called him to identify the car. The plate number was changed (from ###6582 to ###6990), the windows had a darker tint, the car's seat belts, radio, video screen, woofer and even my sunglasses and umbrella are gone, etc. I assume the police did not bother to check the car thoroughly themselves. Why do I think so? Well, because the thief's stuff was not taken out of the car.

And what was the thief's stuff?

-A smelly guy's shirt

-Some cloth thing for you to lie on

and

-CONDOMS!!!

W^&$%^T&*(A(@$F%^&*!!!

Gross! He said there were no stains on the seats but.... It's still so gross! Waaaah! Maybe the police did not take them out because they thought it was Rendall's or maybe they did not want to touch it, thinking that they may get some kind of STDs or whatever.

Anyway, the police called it a "case closed" and he was allowed to take the car back. Don't think it's like CSI where they take the evidence (shirt, cloth, condoms) and check for hair/dust/semen and analyse them to find the culprit, question him, check the relevance of his alibis and arrest him for theft thus making the victims happy and saving other possible victims from the same misfortune or something. Noope! Nah ah! You're dealing with our local police who would not be bothered to do such tedious work.

It's just a car theft. No big deal.

It's quite true that it's not such a big deal, unless you're the victim. Knowing that the culprits are still at large, you kind of feel dissatisfied and wished that their conscience would make them feel terribly guilty and force them to turn themselves in. How I wish, but we all know that nobody would do that, maybe only one in 50 million thieves would do such a "stupid" thing.

Thank God that his car was found (although the gearbox was spoilt and the Kembara had some other kinds of car problem stuff which I do not really know) and I'm thankful that it was just the car that got stolen, for a moment. It could have been worse!

Long time

Eheh..

It's been a long time but anyway, I'm now back in Subang (been back for weeks) and holidays are over. So sad.. Looking forward to the two-week break in April! Yay! One week break for Chinese New Year was not long enough. I wish that I could have been in Kuching longer so that I could spend more time with Ee Can and Ee Dol.

As soon as I came back here, my classmates and I rushed to finish our LAN video. It was due the week after and we had not started. I think the script was... ok la.. I'll give it a 4 out of 10. Its about racial integration shown between two lovebirds and something along that line.

Typical kinda moral story.

Indian boy and Chinese girl meet. Both fall in love. Parents not happy about it. Loads of advise from friends, siblings etc in between and a happy ending where the two fathers allowed the lovebirds to be with each other as long as they do not forget their customs... bla bla bla.. Because this was Moral Education, the number of girls in my class decreased and there were four choices for the Chinese girl part (they did consider getting one of the "softer" guys in my class to play the lead but it would look, HORRIBLE). I was the "lucky" one. It was not that bad, until SOME PEOPLE started calling me CasCas and the guy ShuShu in a mushy sounding way. Eeeeurgh..

Anyway, we did it in a very limited time and well, you can have a look here:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Bloopers

Don't know why Je Wei (the director) called it "Project Marriage" when there was nothing about marriage in there. Hmmm..

I managed to spend somemore time with Ee Dol and Uncle G before they flew back to Perth because they made arrangements to stay a few days here at Aunty Essy and Uncle Richard's place in Damansara. Aunty Essy (Uncle G's sister) and Uncle Richard (Aunty Essy's husband) were new to KL as they had just moved in after their retirement from Emirates, so they had to find me using their GPS device. Uncle Richard was like a little boy with his favourite toy when he kept demonstrating how to use it and all. I stayed over at their place for the weekend and enjoyed it! I didn't want to leave the noght before Ee Dol fly off because I might only see her in the next two years, depending on where I'll be though.
