An actuary who profiles??

Uni classes are starting next week and I can't wait! =D

I'm doing a BCom majoring in Actuarial Studies but actually, it's not really confirmed that I CAN do actuary because I need to get through the first year with top of the notch results and if I fail to do so, I would have to pick another major. I just pray that it does not come to that point. =/

Anyway, this semester, I have four subjects to handle and one of them, Accelerated Mathematics 1, is double the normal workload of other subjects. Usually, one subject requires two hours of lecture and one hour of tutorials per week but for Accel. Math, I'll be doing four hours of lecture and two hours of tutorials every week! More study time for me. =(

One thing I like about Melb Uni is that you have to choose a number of subjects outside of your faculty (something which is not related to your course/major: which is also given the name "breadth subjects"), according to the new model. They just started this last year and I was actually unaware of it when I applied. Well, new system or not, it won't change my decision to go to Melb Uni! XD So after finding out about it (it's too much for me to explain but if you want to know about it, you can visit their website), I think it's a fantastic idea as it will keep one's options open, just in case you intend to do a double major or double degree down the line and it will also diversify one's knowledge.

Unfortunately for those of us who plan to major in Actuarial Studies, we can only choose about three (instead of the recommended six to eight) breadth subjects throughout the whole course because we are required to take certain subjects in order for them to add up to the degree credits. Yea so that kind of rules out the option of being able to study a few specific subjects which can lead to a double degree. Oh but maybe there isa possibility of majoring in another language but, I only have one breadth subject to choose for this year so, I think it's not such a good idea.

It was kind of tough for me to choose what subject I would want to do as there were so many options and I wanted to do them all! XD In the end, with Ee Can's help, I decided to do a subject called:

191-101 From Graffiti to Terrorism

Since I'll be having so much Math and Accounts and Economics, I thought I could do something which is totally unrelated and one which is interesting so I won't get bored or sick and tired of going to uni. As some of you know, I'm quite interested in Psychology but am not allowed to take it as a degree so I'll be studying a bit Criminology while doing my BCom. =) I don't know whether how they'll mention that Criminology bit in my BCom majoring in Actuarial Studies but I do hope that it'll be written down somewhere. Maybe they'll say I have credits in Criminology?? I don't know.

Out of all the four classes (Introductory Microeconomics, Accelerated Mathematics 1, Accounting Reports and Analysis and From Graffiti to Terrorism), I am really looking forward to the Criminology one. It sounds really exciting to me as I have never done something like that before! XD Before I finally set my mind to Criminology, I was thinking of doing subjects related to either Law, History or Philosophy but I think it'll be a bit too dry.

Oh well, I hope I made the right decision! =D

Hereeeeee!!!!

I'm safe people, you don't have to worry! I'm in Melbourne and in ONE piece! XD

I haven't gotten on the internet till today, (wait, the first time I went on here was yesterday night. Hehe..) and I just got my mobile number. I was kind of busy with Ee Can and David, got briefed about how different the lifestyle and road signs are here (I'll most likely be driving, depends on all our schedules and if Uncle G and Ee Dol will send their other car over from Perth! =D) and I had body ache for the past few days, probably because of the long distance journey which I am not used to. That kind of explains why I'm a bit of out of touch with those of you who have been asking about me. =P

But now, I have my own number and you can contact me easily! It took us (Ee Can, David and I) quite some time to figure out which network we'll use as mobile services are killer expensive!

You know how Digi has a flat rate of 15 sen per minute to your FnF numbers? Or how Celcom has their 1+3 plan which enables you to call and text certain numbers for free but with a monthly charge? I don't really know about Maxis but anyway, some phone companies here in Australia charge approximately 30-40 cents per 30 seconds for calls, and that is excluding the connecting fee of 20 cents or more. That means they'll earn close to $1 from you just for a minute's call! It's crazy! Oh and text messages are also expensive! =S

After comparing plans, we think that Virgin prepaid has better deals and that they have a wider coverage. I was told to use Three but if I'm not mistaken, their "free" minutes are only 160 minutes whereas Virgin has about 2500 "free" minutes, Virgin to Virgin! =P

Anyway, some of you might be wondering how my flight was. It was alright, pretty smooth most of the time and of course, there were a few bumps during turbulence. The great thing was that I never felt uncomfortable or uneasy at all, I guess I'm a good flier! =D The journey was about 8 hours long and I brought some things to keep me occupied: a book of super hard Sudoku puzzles so I'll end up killing more time to solve one puzzle, my iPod nano and another book which is on unsolved crimes. There was another form of entertainment for me as the plane actually has personal screens for each seat (I did not know if there were any in Airasia X's planes until I got on board) but it costs RM30 or RM28 by credit card to use them. I only had RM30 with me so I could not try it out. =( I did not want to spend it on movies and games because I was saving them for food just in case I get hungry or thirsty.

I travelled the KL-Melbourne flight alone and I was a bit worried about who the person next to me would be. Could it be a mother with a noisy and puky baby? Or maybe a hyperactive kid who'll be so restless and climb up and down his seat and pull my hair or disturb me while I dozed off? Or an old man who will sleep throughout the flight, making me unable to get up from my seat for toilet visits or maybe he'll snore as loud as an elephant and drool on my shoulder?

Who's going to sit at seat 28J right next to me? The possibilities of weird characters sitting next to me are too great! Ok.. Maybe that's a bit too dramatic? (>.<)

But anyway, thankfully, it was a girl my age who is going to Monash University in Melbourne for her second year! Hallelujah, Hallelujah! XD We chatted for quite a bit and it turns out that she was very uncomfortable throughout the flight, so she snoozed for about 60% of the time. Her mom, who was sitting next to her, was a bit restless though. She told me that she could not sleep on plane rides but that's okay I suppose, once in a while we would talk about casual stuff and these conversations kept me quite occupied! I'm so glad that I had good company next to me! =)

There's more to add on but I'm kinda lazy to organize my thoughts right now as I can smell fried chicken cooking in the kitchen! Hungry...

Three long years

A Princess and Bunny conversation.
Place: Popular bookstore in Tun Jugah
Time: Sometime yesterday afternoon (^.^)

Bunny: Darling, when will we get to finally spend another Valentine's Day together?

Princess: Hmmm?

Bunny: Don't you realise that we have only spent ONE Valentine's Day TOGETHER? =(

Princess: Really?? Right, come to think of it..

Bunny: Yea, it was when we first got together. The year after that in 2007, you were in National Service.

Princess: Uhuh. How sucky.

Bunny: And the year after that, you were in college.

Princess: =/

Bunny: And this year, you're flying off to Melbourne. =( =( =(

Princess: ... Sowee darling.

Bunny: So WHEN can we celebrate Valentine's together my Princess??

Princess: Um.. I don't know. =/

Bunny: *sigh*

I know Valentine's can be very overrated. Florists would mark up the prices of flowers just to earn a short term profit, hotels would offer some sort of special priced packages for their rooms (target: couples who just want a *ahem* special night together), restaurants would change their menus and kill you with the bill after you finish your meal and people would try their best to get a date with the girl or guy they have been obsessed with for the past couple of days? months? years maybe?

Well anyway, Valentine's Day has never been such a special day for me in the past.

Yea, it's a bit early to talk about Valentine's but who cares? =P

I was not like many other girls who received notes or flowers from secret admirers near and far. From what I recall, I did not get anything at all, except maybe a card and a few wishes from friends, but no, nothing from any admirers. I do wonder, "What the hell is wrong with the boys my age?"

Haha.

Nah, just kidding, but it would definitely be interesting! I guess I was not one of the so-called "hot girls" or the "popular ones" which boys would go crazy over. I think I'm glad that I was kind of like the quiet and mysterious one which people hardly knew and hardly heard of, and probably the type which guys are afraid to walk up to. XD Anyway, if ever I got any secret admirers last time, I would ruin it all by digging for info and tracking the fella down. Mwahahaha!

Hear my Amazonian woman roar! RRRAWWRRRR!!!

=D

*clears throat*

Yea so, Valentine's Day was like any other normal day until 2006. Someone made it special that year by asking me to go steady with him and on that very day, we were officially, a couple/an item/boyfriend-girlfriend. *blush* (^.^)

Hmmm.. Looking back again, that seems to be THE ONLY special Valentine's Day I had, so far. XD The year after that, I was in Sematan with fellow NS victims and last year, I had a normal college day surrounded by the lovey dovey atmosphere of couples holding hands and people carrying bouquets of roses, helium filled heart-shaped balloons and all sorts of things you see during that particular day.

Oh well, I'm not that upset that I would not be able to spend Valentine's Day with Rendall this year, I'm just a bit upset that we would not be able to celebrate our anniversary together, again. =/ Valentine's Day this year will mark three years of surviving each other.

Hahaha! I'm just joking! Let me rephrase that:

Valentine's this year will mark three years of our relationship which has been full of tears and surprises, misunderstandings and laughter, disappointment and hope and love which I believe until today, is undying. =)

So even though I might not get to spend the next few Valentine's Days with Rendall, it won't bother me that much (and it should not bother you too darling, if you're reading this!!), because every other day with him has been like Valentine's and at most times, even better! =) Hehe..

By the way, did you notice something? This Valentine's Day is our third year anniversary but I'll be flying off to Melbourne on that day and it will mark the start of my three years there?

.
.
.

Well, I WILL be spending three years there but I'm pretty sure that I'll fly back sometime in between, though not as often as before when I was in college. =/ You didn't think I'll be there for the whole three years right?? XD

Anyway, I want to wish you all an early Happy Valentine's Day and don't sweat if you don't have someone special to spend that time with you. Don't you think it's TOO MUCH that a large number of people go dating on Valentine's? It's like group-dating the size of a town fer crying out loud!
